Hello, I'm
Marla Corson, Ph.D
Renowned Keynote Speaker.
Acclaimed Consultant.
Occupational Health and Safety expert.
I’m a firm believer in the power of dreams and the idea that we can rise above our circumstances. Born in mid-northern Michigan to a single mother, I faced many challenges early in life. Yet, even then, I dreamed of a world beyond what I could see in my small hometown.
My journey began when I joined the Air Force right out of high school, launching a life of service and exposing me to a diverse array of people who have shaped my path. This experience was further enriched by a 18-month Spanish-speaking mission in Venezuela, broadening my cultural understanding and language skills.
For over 20 years, I’ve dedicated myself to the field of occupational health and safety, striving to improve workplaces for people from all walks of life. This commitment to service and diversity has been a constant thread throughout my career, informing my approach to consulting and speaking on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
Education has been key to my growth. I achieved a childhood dream by earning a PhD from Purdue, with my dissertation focusing on “Energy Conservation and Efficiency in Manufacturing: Employee Decision Making.” This academic journey has equipped me with research skills and knowledge that I now apply to help organizations foster inclusive and safe environments.
Outside of work, I’m an avid gardener with a flourishing blueberry patch and small orchard. I’ve recently taken up guitar and enjoy riding my Harley Davidson Trike CVO. My partner and I share our home with three four-legged kids: two Dobermans and a Boxer puppy.
At this stage in my life, I’m committed to living up to what I believe is my calling: driving meaningful, positive change in the world. Through my consulting and speaking engagements, I aim to inspire others to dream big, embrace diversity, and create safer, more inclusive spaces – whether in the workplace or the community at large.
My diverse experiences – from military service to academic research, from learning new languages to mastering workplace safety – have given me a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities in today’s diverse work environments. I’m excited to bring this multifaceted approach to help organizations and individuals reach their full potential.
